PRIVACY

Have you ever used Google to look up your own name?
Try it!! Is that really you and do you like what other people could find about you in the internet??

I very often search my name and I can say, that people can find information about a person (also a girl, funny thing :D ) who has the same name as I. But it isn`t me and the things you find about this girl aren`t evil, so all right ;)

What about privacy? Do you care about your settings at Facebook, youtube, Twitter and so on?!
YOU SHOULD!!

Teaching

"Introduction to computer science / programming methodly" - this is a course at the Stanford University.
Mehran Sahami is the professor who submites the semester and who filmes his lectures.
It is fun watching his videos!!
And if you don't like the topic he talkes about, agree me, you are getting more and more interested in it after watching his videos. It's a good way of teaching his students!! :D

Salman Khan: Let's use video to reinvent education

Do you know the video from Salman Khan: Let's use video to reinvent education ?
Watch it if you don't know it: www.ted.com/talks/salman_khan_let_s_use_video_to_reinvent_education.html

Salman Khan talks about how and why he created the remarkable Khan Academy.
It is a carefully structured series of educational videos offering complete curricula in math and, now, other subjects. He mentioned the power of interactive exercises, and calls for teachers to consider flipping the traditional classroom script.
Why didn't my teachers use interactive exercises like giving us video lectures to watch at home or doing challenges online?!?
I find this concept of online learning and teaching fascinating. Students can learn and work on their own, but also getting help from the teacher if they have problems with a topic.
This kind of learning when integrating youtube videos, moodle, podcasts and other platforms makes it more interesting for students and other people. I'm also such a person who likes to watch tutorials for coming easier in a new topic.

Social Gaming

Yes, what should I tell you...?!
->  I think you all tried more social gaming as I :D
I'm not the fan of social gaming. I never played a social game very often and for a long time, it doesn't inspire me!! I once played at a friend "Counter-Strike", but I didn't understand what's so funny. Also this new game "Diablo III" what you can buy since some weeks..... yeah, there is a story behind it which makes it more interessing for some people to play it, it is a challenge to find out the secret. I could be fun I think.
But for me it will never be fascinating!!!

What about you?

The popularity of the terms ’web 2.0’ vs ’social media’ has changed over the years

blau = web 2.0    rot = social media

The development of "web 2.0" and "social media" can be good compared with Google Trends. It shows that the "social media" term becoms increasingly popular as "web 2.0".

What do you think about it? Is web 2.0 something of the past?

Sorry guys!!
In my last post I wrote about the wrong Milgram experiment - in which I was also interessted ;)

Now, read about Milgram`s SMALL WORLD EXPERIMENT

Milgram selected some participants from two US cities and created a sort of information packet that was sent to randomly selected participants somewhere else. The task of the participants was to send the package not directly to the target person, provided they doesn`t know them personally, but to one person, who they thought that they might know this person. At the same time, participants were required to record basic information about yourself in a table and they must send a postcard to the scientists, so that they could understand the chain. The result was, that a total of three packets of the target population reached with an average path length of 6. The investigators concluded that each person in the U.S. population is separated of any other person in the United States by an average of six people.

A little unbelievable, or?

 Milgram experiment

Stanley Milgram, a psychologist at Yale University, conducted an experiment focusing on the conflict between obedience to authority and personal conscience. The experiments began in July 1961, shortly after the trial of the World War II criminal Adolph Eichmann had begun. It was originally intended to explain the crimes of the Nazi era social psychology and should analyze if the Germans have a very authoritarian nature of hearing.
The experiment consisted in the fact that a "teacher"(the actual subject), a "student" (an actor) failures in the composition of word pairs each dealt a shock and an investigator (also an actor) made the statements.  Milgram developed an intimidating shock generator, with shock levels starting at 30 volts and increasing in 15-volt increments all the way up to 450 volts.  The teacher have to give a shock to the student every time an incorrect answer was produced. He believed that he was delivering real shocks to the student, but the student was a real actor who was simply pretending to be shocked. During the experiment the teacher would hear the student plead to be released or even complain about a heart condition.Once the 300-volt level had been reached, the learner banged on the wall and demanded to be released.
A terrible idea i think.......  especially for the person who has to be the teacher.
Yeah... and at the end the level of shock that the teacher was willing to deliver was used as the measure of obedience. The result was that 65% of the teachers in Milgram’s study delivered the maximum shocks.
An extreme result I think!!

Conclusion: The experiment showed that most teachers were prompted by the situation, to be guided by the instructions of the experimenter and not the pain of the victims. So, the presence of an authority figure dramatically increased obedience.

What do you think about it? Could that be?

Other psychologists argue that obedience is heavily influenced by both external and internal factors, such as personal beliefs and overall temperament. Maybe that`s the fact..... ?!

Social networking services

The social networking service is an online service, platform, or site. It consists of a representaion of each user,
his/her social links and a variety of additional services. This platform or site focuses on facilitating the building of social networks, so that you can interact over the internet such as email and instant messaging or to be online in a community and chat with other people. You can share ideas, events, activities and interests for example, because of this web-based social networking services.
A big and most visited social networking site all over the world is Facebook.
I think you all know and use some social networks so i don`t have to tell you much more about the features.
People use social networking sites for social interaction, for finding old friends or for meeting new people with the same interests and so more and more friends- and relationsships are being formed. But social network is not only used for communication with friends, also teachers and students use it as a communication tool. You also can find companys there which make advertising or that you can network with professionals for internship and job opportunities.
About the issues that came up with social networks like for example privacy we can discuss many hours or days. And i think everyone how decide to join some social network should know the problems about privacy!

Do you know the problem? Do you care about it?

I think most of the people haven't thought about it. They don't care, because they don't know something about the consequences. They join the social network and never change the settings or don`t care about the rights they give up for example after uploading pictures. Especially childern don`t know about the disadvantages and danger! ...sad but true...

Creative Commons

It is a nonprofit organization that enables the sharing and use of creativity and knowledge through free legal tools.
They have a free and easy-to-use copyright licenses. But this is not an alternative to copyright. It only enable you to modify your copyright terms to best suit your needs. This licenses provide a standardized way to give the public permission to share and use your creastive work on conditions you choose.
So for example, if you want to let people share and use your photographs, but not allow companies to sell them, you should  consider publishing it under a Creative Commons license. It gives you flexibility and protects the people who use your work. But not only individual creators, also large companies and institutions use this creative commons tools to keep their copyright.
It`s a good thing!!

Would you like to have a copyright licenses and why is it so important?

Basic of group dynamics

The group dynamic has a area of confict between a person, the group and the organisation. Every peron is in a group: the family, friends, at work, .... and in every group we as person act different. We and all the other groupmembers give our best and try to find the balance between our needs, so that we can be together and organised.
There are four position a person can have in a group:
The ALPHA person is the leader of the group.
The GAMMA persons are these people who have the same opinion as the alpha person and/or want to support this alpha person.
The OMEGA persons are the restrained once. They share the opinion of the alpha person reluctantly and are unsure in everything they do.
The BETA once are the persons who don't identify themselfs with the alpha person. They are independent, have a advisory function and because of this they are potential competitors of the alpha person.

So, it is true that there are different persons in a group I think, but I don't know and don't agree, that every group has this four positions of persons. There can also be a alpha and three omegas and no beta... or what do you think?

Today I want to tell you someting about the Tuckman's Group Development Model.

There are four phrases: Forming - Storming - Norming - Performing.
In the first phase the forming of the team takes place. Every person needs to find out what are the expectations and they are trying to give him or her best without working with the other groupmemebers. During the second phase the groupmembers get into conficts with each other because they are focused on theirselfs, they are not open minded and have different oppinions. They must find a solution and spread the work, so that they can successfully do the project. The cooperation is important in the third phase. The people talk to each other and find solutions together. Performing is the last phase where the members want to finish the project and give their top performance.
I think that in reality you do not find every phase in every groupwork, but it seems correct that working with someone needs to be practised, because people have different ideas.

I watched this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Xb5spS8pmE about a new technology that should improve our learning at university. It is very interesting.
I think university nowadays provide resources that help people understand what they are learning and doing.
Surely most students are bored to be teached with this old classical methods and would be more interested if the lectures and teachers would give their best to offer us the best they can AND thereby using the new technologies that should be used in our education systems - the internet. It is obvious that the internet is a labyrinth of information that is almost impossible to learn from, but you can be part of it and have a look at different topics from many points of view because of the communication and exchange between other people. You get knowledge and you can add knowledge and that it is what makes it interesting to be used. So i think university should find a way to include the internet at their treaching methods.

Samstag, 24. März 2012

Today is such a day at which I'm thinking about many things... for example: Is there a life after death?

Many people don't believe it, but why should be nothing there after life?!
I once found a nice story:

So,  we are the children in our life and we have no knowledge about the time after death... no one knows what will be there after life. - But maybe something could be there....!

Hey people,
I don`t know if you have seen the film 'our earth' - it was wonderful!
So, last week started the film 'our life' in theaters. I wanted to see it necessarily and it really paid off!!
Let me tell you something about it:

The film shows the life of some animals, their behaviour and their ingenuity with whom they master their life.
It all beginns with the birth of the animals - the unreasonable places, and what a mother has to do to protect their children. The weddelrobbe at the northpol, the japanese snowmonkeys, the elefants, the goriallas or the strawberryfrogs; the childern depend on their mother because they are too young and small to find food or to survive alone. Every mother cares a lot of their children and goes to hunt prey, and it's always a fight for survival. One exception is the giant octopus! This animal gets children only once in her life and so the octopus cares and protects his eggs for six month without going away from them and without eating. So this animal sacrifies herself for her childern – incredible!

Then you see how animals hunt. The comodowarane or the geopards for example – normally loner – have figured that they have to be in a team to bag a bigger animal like a ostrich.
You learn, that animals are clever. The brown haubencapuziner monkeys know that they have to dry the palm fruit in the sun and then rack them with a stone. Or the little jesus-christ-lizard, that flees over the water without sinking. It's impressiv how the dolphins trick the pisces: the dolphins are swimming in circles around the ground and swirl up the sand with their fin, so that the pisces don't swim through the dirt cloud but spring out of the water, where the dolphins wait with a open mouth and eat them! Funny thing!!! :D

Now pairing, there are scenes about it, of course. The interessting once where about the humpback whales and the clark diver. The female whales attract six male whales at the same time and this male whales hit with their fin on the water and make violent waves. As expected, the one who makes the biggest wave is the winner! The clark diver however have a spectacular balzzeremonie in which they walk in pairs up to 20 meters over the water. It's wonderful, have a look at it, FILMCLIP 6: http://www.unserleben-derfilm.de/#/trailer

As you see, there are also other clips on the homepage if you are interessted in, watch them, it´s amazing!

You should look the film as well, i really liked it, it was great.
You get a strong impression about life on earth :)
